Introduction

If you could only use one skincare product for the rest of your life, it should be sunscreen. UV damage accumulates silently over years, breaking down structural collagen and causing premature wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, and skin cancer risks.

UVA vs. UVB: What Is the Difference?

UV radiation reaches the Earth in two main wavelengths:

  • UVA (Aging): Penetrates deep into the dermis, destroys collagen, and passes through glass and clouds. Responsible for wrinkles and sun spots.
  • UVB (Burning): Targets the outer epidermis layer. Responsible for sunburns and DNA damage that leads to skin cancer.

Physical vs. Chemical Sunscreens

Physical (Mineral) Sunscreens contain active minerals like Zinc Oxide or Titanium Dioxide. They sit on top of the skin, acting like tiny mirrors to reflect UV rays away. They are ideal for sensitive or post-treatment skin.

Chemical Sunscreens contain organic compounds (like Avobenzone or Octinoxate) that absorb UV rays like a sponge, converting them into heat and releasing them from the skin. They are lightweight and leave no white cast.

Application Guidelines

To achieve the SPF rating listed on the bottle, you must apply the correct amount. Dermatologists recommend using two full finger lengths of product for the face and neck, reapplying every 2-3 hours when outdoors.
